Here is what the final turned out too be.
TEXT:
So last but not least, project 4: to create a sculpture and place it in an ideal setting. The sculpture can be any medium and in any location . Here are some ideas.
Sculpture: plaster, wood; 12 ft height, 16ft width/circumfrance: Hanging upside down in center of mouth; similar shape as stalagmite, with nooks and cranny for insects/creatures to live.
Sculpture: Glass; 18ft x 12ft; Shape is consistent with what happens to lightnening striking sand; Taller than wide; arms contain fragments of sand pebbles.
Okay so after some debate on whether to create something new or go with an image already created, i went with something that was a part of my childhood. An image that i remember from childhood is movie Labrynth, specifically the worm that approaches Jennifer Connelly @ begin of maze(however no one can forget David Bowie’s get-up).
So to begin some prelem. sketches . . . . fyi, the scarf and hair will be attatched after the plaster molds are made. Damn just noticed i forget his ears, shit!
Then hands on …
This shalak(sp??) which seals the clay so the latex won’t stick. It’s applied with a brush. Then thin coat of this gloss sealent ontop of that. The latex is applied and dries, giving you a mold.
Creating a figurine out of clay. Have some rough ideas, nothing solid yet, however iam really excited about the process of this project. One, because there are multiple steps before the final product is produced. Two, iam impatient and am always willing to work on becoming more patient.
The project is well on it’s way. Here are a few pics. First, an addition and subtraction form out of clay.
Words I have used before in describing art.
Abstract(distortion of real-life image), anthropomorphic( relating to human form), articulated(movable joint), axis, casting ( slip casting into mold, coffee cups), composition( constantly used in my critique’s, needs work), concave( negative space), content( sometimes can be vulgar and offensive), contour(outline of object, also needs work, esp. w/ lines) dominant( not only used to describe art but also facets of my personality)
Methods for creating 3D forms
Subtraction: The sculptor, Rodin comes to mind, ‘ideal form” carving figure out of stone block.
Manipulation: molding clay
Addition: multi-media collage
Substitution: Project 3, replication of object via molds and casting
Soft sculpture. This should be an intersting assignment. Craftmanship is def. going to be challenging at 8am in the morning. I have a concrete idea in the works, old phone(zack morris style) and pager with a tight noose around them, thus leading too, “Dead Technology”.
Sketches
Explanation:
As you can see I chose the oldest phone I know of and a pager to be hung by a noose with the caption “ded tech.” Everything on this sculpture is an out dated version of technology, including the noose. The caption reads, “ded tech” specifically because technology never really dies it just advances.
Rain, rain go away. stop coming back every other day :>(
Well after a successful start and finish project on has come to an end. The verdict, not really what the professor wanted but all art is objective and in my opinion, I like my caiotic balanced form
